Picked up a FLIRC IR receiver and it works great with the Fire TV. So I received my flirc, at first had updating issues, but resolved them by following the support page. My biggest issue was trying to find a workaround so I didn't have to use CEC with the Shield. The touch screen can be programmed in different ways and for example show all your favorite TV channels. After much research on Harmony, Flirc, and Shield forums, I finally have a setup for my Harmony remote that records all Shield functions correctly to the Flirc.
